HYBRID – DIRECTOR OF DATA ENGINEERING

Location; Carlsbad, CA (3 days on site)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Data Engineering will lead the development and optimization of the company's data architecture and infrastructure, supporting enterprise AI and analytics initiatives. This individual will partner closely with the VP of Data and Analytics to define and execute the organization's data strategy, leveraging tools such as Databricks to enable advanced data processing, governance, and AI-driven insights.

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the design, build, and maintenance of scalable data systems and pipelines.
• Lead modernization of the data architecture to support AI, machine learning, and analytics use cases.
• Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business leaders to ensure data availability, integrity, and accessibility across the organization.
• Establish data engineering standards, best practices, and frameworks for the enterprise data ecosystem.
• Oversee implementation and optimization of Databricks and other cloud data technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to align data initiatives with business goals.
• Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering innovation and technical excellence.
• Drive continuous improvement of data quality, security, and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or related technical leadership roles.
• Proven experience building and scaling enterprise data platforms and pipelines using Databricks, Spark, or similar technologies.
• Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and data governance frameworks.
• Strong background in Python, SQL, and cloud data services (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing technical teams and manage large-scale projects.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with executives and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's .
• AI/ML experience or exposure to data science environments a plus.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. or Green Card holders ).
