Job Summary:
The Director of Business Development & Community Engagement is responsible for leading both employer hiring partnerships and community referral partnerships across the communities Chrysalis serves in Southern California. Through the Direct Hire program, the Director will develop strategic partnerships with private businesses, non-profits, and government organizations, with a focus on providing connections to job opportunities for Chrysalis clients. In addition, the Director will work to lead Chrysalis’ outreach strategy, building and maintaining relationships with the full spectrum of community stakeholders that refer individuals for services at Chrysalis and to whom Chrysalis refers clients.
Areas of Responsibility:
Lead Direct Hire Program
- Manage Direct Hire Program, including a team of Business Development Managers and a Business Development Coordinator, focused on building employer partner relationships and matching clients to jobs, coordinating services with Chrysalis’ Client Services team.
- Develop and implement plans designed to identify new partners and increase Direct Hire opportunities for clients, while also looking to refer opportunities to existing Chrysalis Enterprises businesses as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing consultation and support to employer partners, promoting Fair Chance Hiring practices and policies whenever possible.
- Direct all employer partner relationship activities to ensure delivery of the highest quality service.
- Coordinate services through close collaboration with staff across the Client Services and Chrysalis Enterprises departments to facilitate the process of identifying and matching clients to employer partner job openings.
- Capture and track customer interactions in Chrysalis’ Salesforce database.
- Develop and negotiate agreements with potential employer partners as needed.
- Support grant-funded programs in meeting their employment outcome targets.
- Work across all Chrysalis Departments to leverage relationships to create job opportunities, recruit volunteers, enhance advocacy, and support Development and Communications efforts.
- Stay up to date on local employment trends, delivering actionable information to appropriate parties.
Oversee Community Engagement & Outreach Strategies
- Lead strategy to engage community referral partners, fostering long-term relationships focused on bringing potential new clients to Chrysalis for services.
- Support Community Engagement Manager, and team of Community Engagement Coordinators, in implementing outreach strategies and maintaining active relationships with partners.
- Help identify opportunities to reach and engage Chrysalis’ target populations, including through resource fairs and events, provider coalitions, public sector meetings, email communications with partners, regular tours, and more.
- Track community relationships and key interactions in Chrysalis’ Salesforce database.
- Ensure coordination between the Community Engagement and Direct Hire teams for partners which work with Chrysais both as referral partners and hiring partners.
- Work with Community Engagement team to analyze referral source data, identify trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies on an ongoing basis.
Build, Develop, & Maintain Community Relationships
- Understand, and speak to, all aspects of Chrysalis’ programs in a compelling manner with passion and enthusiasm.
- Represent Chrysalis with all stakeholders – at meetings, tours and site visits, providing overview of services, addressing questions or concerns, and ensuring best-in-class service is being delivered across all employer partner sites.
- Network and regularly attend meetings with a wide range of business groups, such as local chambers of commerce and human resource associations, in order to establish relationships.
- Deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences as needed.
- Develop and maintain deep understanding of the barriers to employment that Chrysalis clients face, as well as the best practices and strategies to help navigate those barriers.
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Policy & Government Relations, and other key staff, to support and Chrysalis’ advocacy efforts, helping to build and manage relationships with public sector stakeholders at the local, state, and federal levels.
General Duties:
- Supervise team of Direct Hire and Community Engagement staff, providing ongoing coaching and support.
- Assist in the compilation and submission of programmatic grant reports as needed.
- Help to define and implement long-term organizational strategic goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Skills & Qualifications:
- Exceptional customer service and relationship-building skills.
- 3+ years of experience in areas such as nonprofit program management, sales, job development, community engagement, or similar related fields.
- Experience supervising and leading staff and teams.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, organization and time management skills.
- Willingness and ability to make often unpredictable visits to employer partner sites.
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with staff across departments.
- Commitment to addressing the needs of low-income communities.
- Ability to solve challenging operational problems and make timely decisions, often with tight and competing deadlines.
- Understanding of and ability to use or learn software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Salesforce.
- Reliable transportation to travel between meetings and sites, as needed (mileage reimbursed).
