Job Title: Director of BESS Engineering

Location: Remote (Preferred: NYC, Kansas City, Charleston, Indianapolis)

Reports to: VP of Engineering

About the Role

We're looking for a smart, versatile leader to join our fast-growing energy team as Director of BESS Engineering. This is a critical hire. You'll drive the technical development of our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and manage the full interconnection process across multiple high-impact projects.

You'll wear many hats: engineering lead, project strategist, utility liaison, and team manager. You won't be drawing single lines. You'll be designing the future of energy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development of BESS projects from site screening through commissioning
• Manage the end-to-end interconnection process, interfacing directly with utilities, consultants, and internal teams
• Support local permitting efforts and guide projects through technical reviews
• Oversee and mentor a team of engineers and consultants
• Act as a technical voice with utilities, clearly explaining BESS design and functionality
• Collaborate with development, permitting, and interconnection teams
• Drive technical design standards and best practices across the portfolio

What You Bring

• 5-10 years in electrical engineering with direct experience in BESS development
• Strong understanding of interconnection processes and hands-on experience managing them
• Proven leadership and ability to manage consultants or teams
• Technical background in site analysis, permitting, and design
• Experience at a developer or technical consultancy
• PE license, PMP, or relevant certifications are a plus
