Horizontal Directional Boring Operator – Nationwide Travel

Location: Travel Required – 100% Nationwide
Employment Type: Full-Time
License Required: CDL (Class A or B)
Background Check: Must be free of felony convictions

About the Role

We are seeking experienced, reliable Horizontal Directional Boring Operators to join our traveling crew. This is a full-time position requiring complete travel flexibility, excellent equipment handling skills, and a clean legal record. Operators will install underground utilities using advanced boring techniques across a range of job sites.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate directional boring equipment including drills, locators, and support vehicles
• Read and interpret utility maps, plans, and blueprints
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of equipment and trucks
• Monitor bore paths to avoid utility conflicts and maintain accuracy
• Communicate with ground crew, project managers, and contractors
• Maintain detailed logs of work performed and submit required reports
• Follow all DOT, OSHA, and company safety procedures on-site and on the road
• Load and transport machinery and materials between job locations

Requirements

• Valid CDL (Class A or B) with a clean driving record
• Must be able to pass background check — no felony convictions
• Proven experience in horizontal boring or underground utility installation
• Ability to travel nationwide for extended periods
• Strong work ethic, professionalism, and attention to detail
• Physical ability to lift, stand, and work outdoors in varying conditions
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

Skills

• Experience with Ditch Witch or Vermeer equipment
• Utility locating and potholing expertise
• CPR/First Aid or OSHA 10/30 certifications
• Trenching, excavation, or utility construction background
