An Auto Diesel Mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and performs maintenance on diesel engines and vehicles, such as trucks and buses, using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and specialized equipment. Key responsibilities include conducting routine maintenance like oil changes, replacing malfunctioning components, performing diagnostic tests, and ensuring vehicle safety and compliance with regulations. Qualifications include a high school diploma, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and potentially specialized training or certifications in diesel technology.

Job Summary

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair: diesel engines, including transmissions, brake systems, and steering mechanisms.
  • Perform preventative maintenance: such as oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations.
  • Use diagnostic equipment: and technical manuals to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Collaborate with customers: to understand their concerns and explain necessary repairs.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm
  • Pay: Ranging between $38-50 flag rates depending on experience
  • Probationary Period: Guaranteed 40hrs/week pay for up to 6 weeks during 90 day probationary period
  • Ability to Grow: Employee reviews at 90 days & annually

Key Responsibilities

  • Read work orders, consult technical charts, and plan work procedures.
  • Inspect engines and other vehicle components to identify problems.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts and equipment.
  • Test vehicles to ensure smooth operation after repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed.
  • Uphold safety and environmental standards in the workplace.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and repair techniques.

Requirements

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics, electrical systems, hydraulics, and brake systems.
  • Diagnostic Aptitude: Ability to interpret diagnostic test results and identify mechanical problems.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in inspecting and repairing components.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Physical Fitness: Capacity to lift heavy parts and work in challenging positions.
  • Tools: Personal basic tool set will be required for daily use.
  • Specializations: Cummins and Duramax experience 2000's models and older
  • Certifications: ASE Certification but not required
  • Experience: 3-5 years Diesel experience or technical training , but will train the right person

Work Environment

  • Mechanics typically work in repair shops, which can be well-ventilated but sometimes noisy.
  • The job can be physically demanding, with potential exposure to hazardous materials and requires working in uncomfortable positions
