Position Summary
The Development Project Manager will play a critical role in coordinating the planning, design, permitting, and construction of real estate development projects. This position is ideal for a candidate with 3–5 years of architecture experience who has developed a strong understanding of construction processes and enjoys managing projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and driving project execution.
The ideal candidate does not need to be a licensed architect but should possess strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with architects, consultants, contractors, and ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Design Coordination
- Assist in managing development projects through all phases, including due diligence, design, permitting, construction, and closeout.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and municipal agencies to advance project approvals and entitlements.
- Review drawings, specifications, and consultant deliverables for completeness, coordination, and constructability.
- Participate in design meetings and provide input related to project feasibility, cost, schedule, and construction considerations.
Construction & Project Management
- Support construction activities by coordinating with subcontractors, and field personnel.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and milestones to ensure successful project execution.
- Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and construction documentation.
- Conduct site visits and assist with quality control, progress monitoring, and issue resolution.
- Help identify project risks and proactively develop solutions to maintain project objectives.
Development Support
- Assist with project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate permitting and municipal approval processes.
- Support due diligence efforts, including zoning reviews, code analysis, and consultant coordination.
- Prepare project reports, presentations, and development updates for leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Studies, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in architecture, construction, development, or project management.
- Strong understanding of building design, construction methods, and project delivery processes.
- Experience reviewing construction documents and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
- Experience working on multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, or residential development projects.
- Familiarity with Chicago zoning, permitting, and building approval processes.
- Working knowledge of construction budgeting and scheduling.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and project management software.
- LEED accreditation or other industry certifications are a plus.
- Progress toward architectural licensure is welcomed but not required.
