Development Engineer- Seatbelts
This role is responsible for carrying out GDPs independently, from AES phase to pre-TG3. The development engineer will need to create innovative product design concepts based on the market needs identified through SPP process, conduct feasibility analysis by CAE and CVs, propose design details, go through necessary Design-Sampling-Testing cycles, complete DVs and PVs till the product gets launched for production. The engineer may need to play PM or project leader roles depending on the scope of the GDP projects, such as tracking project timing, work with suppliers for prototype components, work with IE for product assembly process development, work with purchasing for cost analysis, work with other tech center who may have resource for GDP project supporting roles, create and organize all the project documentations (PLM, PWA etc.)
What you’ll do:
- Conceptualize/envision/develop new seat belt product designs and changes to current product standards to meet changing market needs.
- Design seat belt product or major components or major portions of a functional system
- Work with a cross functional team to design/develop products for easy manufacturing
- Validate, analyze, test products, and ensure products comply to government regulations and meet customer specifications
- Responsible for engineering document through entire product development phases including DFMEA, DRBFM, DVP&R and other relevant engineering documents
- Responsible for product development deliverables
- Supporting IE in developing seatbelt product manufacturing and assembly process, CPS/MPS
- Work with seat belt component suppliers to ensure component design is easier and cost effective manufacturing processes
What is required:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- In depth knowledge of seat belt products and functions.
- Good knowledge of engineering mechanics and mechanism design
- Knowledge of GD&T and drawing standard
- Knowledge of product development tools including FMEA, DRBFM, DVP&R etc.
- Problem solving skills
- Project managing skills
- Familiar with seat belt product manufacturing and assembly processes
- Familiar with seat belt components manufacturing processes, such as stamping, die casting, cold forming, injection molding
- Familiar with government regulations and OEM specifications
- Must be willing to join/lead early morning or evening conference calls as needed
- Availability to travel up to about 10% of the time, as needed
- Availability to work on site at least 60% of the time
