Design Engineer | Whitehall, MI

Salary Range: $75,000 - $114,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new products, components, and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize designs for production efficiency.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on performance requirements, cost, and scalability.
  • Support prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs, incorporating feedback for iterative improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure successful product launch.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including BOMs, specifications, and engineering change orders.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, material science, and common manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, sheet metal).
  • Demonstrated experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills for developing robust and efficient design solutions.
  • Experience in prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, or machining.
  • Proficiency with advanced simulation software (e.g., FEA, CFD).
  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Certification in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
