Job Description
The Role\nMy client is seeking a Design Engineer to join a growing manufacturing business specialising in engineered plastic components. This role will focus on the design and development of components and tooling, ensuring solutions are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with customer and internal requirements.\n\nYou will work closely with production, tooling, and cross-functional teams, playing a key role in delivering high-quality engineered solutions within a fast-paced environment.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n• Design and develop 3D models and 2D drawings for components and associated tooling\n\n• Modify and optimise existing designs to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost\n\n• Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure design feasibility\n\n• Conduct design reviews and implement feedback where required\n\n• Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles\n\n• Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities\n\n• Ensure all designs meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and specifications\n\n• Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, revisions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)\n\n• Assist with material selection appropriate to manufacturing processes\n\n• Liaise with suppliers and external partners during tooling manufacture and validation\n\n• Support and contribute to continuous improvement across design and manufacturing\n\nThe Candidate\n\nDegree qualified in Engineering or equivalent experience\n\nStrong experience in CAD design and technical drawing creation\n\nProficient in CAD software\n\nExperience or exposure to manufacturing environments (plastics or similar advantageous)\n\nStrong problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail\n\nAble to work independently and as part of a team\n\nDesirable\nUnderstanding of manufacturing processes and materials\n\nKnowledge of GD&T\n\nExperience with tooling or component design\n\nExposure to simulation tools\n\nExperience working within a fast-paced production environment\n\nSalary\n£30,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
