Design Engineer III – Bridge Engineer

Hunt Valley, MD

$50.00 – $55.00 per hour

Position Overview

A Hunt Valley-based engineering team is hiring a Bridge Engineer to develop structural documents for transportation projects, including MDOT and municipal work. Responsibilities include bridge safety inspections and analysis of overweight vehicle permits.

Key Responsibilities

•            Prepare structural and bridge design calculations, plans, and cost estimates for new construction, rehabilitation, and replacement projects.

•            Assist with or lead NBIS-compliant bridge safety inspections.

•            Conduct specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure safe passage across bridges and designated routes.

•            Perform structural modeling and analysis using tools such as MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP.

•            Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental teams to deliver integrated project solutions.

Required Qualifications

•            Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

•            Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland.

•            Minimum of 5 years of experience in bridge design and/or inspection.

•            Familiarity with MDOT bridge design guidelines, inspection procedures, and permit review processes.

Qualifications

•            Completion of one or more of the following bridge inspection training courses:

•            NHI-130055 or NHI-130056: Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges

•            NHI-130078: Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges

•            NHI-130087: Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures
