We have a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer III to work in our CRX Engines group.
NOTE: This position is 100% onsite in Caro, MI and visa sponsorship is not available.
Primary Purpose:
As a Design Engineer III, you will apply your mechanical intuition and creativity to design performance, ergonomics, reliability, durability and manufacturability into our industry leading products. You will evaluate and recommend specifications and ensure products meet the technical and functional requirements. This role involves recommending and following reliable, efficient, and cost-effective procedures. You will perform feasibility, functional, and quality testing of designs. This position works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure project milestones are met and that projects are completed according to established timelines. You will contribute to moderately complex aspects of a project.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops, and enhances new and existing products/product lines.
- Creates 3D models and assemblies.
- Details drawings for manufacturing and assembly of products.
- Builds prototypes, products, and systems for testing; sets up and runs laboratory simulations.
- Evaluates engineering approaches and risks.
- Conducts and/or participates in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, codes, and other artifacts.
- Identifies and organizes requirements.
- Applies usability procedures and principles at the project or product-line level or through customer input.
- Designs and develops new and existing products with a focus on manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
- Performs design reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
- Checks drawings and models to ensure they are correct and complete.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external teams.
- Completes other tasks assigned by management.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Proficient with SolidWorks (or other software) 3D modeling and detailing.
- A demonstrated high level of mechanical intuition.
- Hands-on experience and/or strong knowledge of machining, metal fabrication, die casting, and molding.
- Ability to check drawings to ensure parts are fully defined, properly toleranced, and will fit and function correctly with associated parts.
- Understanding of the product development cycle, from concept to market.
- Strong analytical skills balanced with creativity and innovation.
- Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment of constant change.
- Self-directed individual who works well within a team environment.
- Knowledge of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to streamline problem-solving and various tasks is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- Typically requires 4-7 years of related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline, or equivalent experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- This role requires more than moderate amounts of sitting, walking, and standing.
- Extended periods of time may be spent sitting at a desk, using a computer and phone.
- Extended periods of time may be spent in a shop environment, using hand tools and power tools.
Work Hours:
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with occasional extended hours as required to complete assignments.
