Job Description
Metric Geo is partnered with a leading Ground Improvement contractor. They are searching for a Design Engineer.
Overview
A Design Engineer supports the sales and operations teams in both office and field settings by developing and implementing effective ground improvement solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review geotechnical reports, project specifications, and civil/structural plans to support design development.
- Analyze and select ground improvement methods that meet project requirements (e.g., settlement, bearing capacity, stability, liquefaction mitigation).
- Develop soil profiles, cross sections, and select soil parameters for design.
- Perform design calculations, including stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and geotechnical/structural capacity of CMCs.
- Conduct finite element modeling (e.g., Plaxis) to assess soil-structure interactions.
- Prepare and coordinate final design documents, drawings, and calculations.
- Review field QA/QC data and address nonconforming site conditions.
- Prepare project documentation such as specifications, methods, and testing submittals.
- Provide timely responses to project inquiries and support field teams.
- Defend and communicate design decisions and respond to reviewer feedback.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of geotechnical design principles and calculations.
- Proficient in slope stability analysis, finite element modeling, and MS Office; familiarity with AutoCAD .
- Strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Able to present technical information clearly and collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with 1+ years of geotechnical design experience or relevant coursework.
- EIT or PE . Working towards them is acceptable.
