Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in sheet metal design, machine guarding, and tooling/fixture development. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, detailing, and developing mechanical components and assemblies/subassemblies using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor. This role involves close collaboration with manufacturing, production, and safety teams to ensure functional, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop sheet metal components, machine guarding, tooling, and fixtures for manufacturing and automation systems.
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings of parts and subassemblies using Inventor () or SolidWorks.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, safety, and ergonomic standards.
- Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T for accurate fit and function.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, maintenance, and safety) to refine and optimize designs.
- Prepare BOMs (Bill of Materials), design documentation, and revision control.
- Support prototype builds, validation, and design modifications.
- Review designs for compliance with applicable safety standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication, tooling design, and machine guarding.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, manufacturing processes, and mechanical assemblies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:
- Experience with PDM systems and engineering change management.
- Knowledge of safety standards (OSHA, CE, ISO) related to machine guarding.
- Exposure to automation equipment or custom machinery design.
