With strong growth plans through AMP 8 and AMP 9, they are looking to strengthen their already established design team with a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants exposure to major infrastructure projects and genuine career progression.

This is a business with a serious design capability already in place — 40+ engineers, strong internal support, and a track record of delivering multi-million-pound schemes across water, power and energy infrastructure.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical design and specification across water and wastewater treatment projects, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.

You’ll be involved from concept through to detailed design and construction support, working closely with project managers, commercial teams and site teams to deliver robust, sustainable engineering solutions.

The role will include:

  • Mechanical design and specification of treatment systems and pumping stations
  • Developing detailed technical specifications and interface requirements
  • Producing 2D / 3D mechanical layouts and general arrangements
  • Coordinating design activities and supporting junior engineers
  • Chemical dosing and water quality monitoring design elements
  • Attending site during delivery and client meetings
  • Supporting innovation and continuous improvement across projects

Projects range from smaller £5k schemes through to £15m+ infrastructure programmes across multiple major water company frameworks.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer role within the UK water sector
  • Strong background in mechanical systems design
  • HNC / HND / Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Experience using Autodesk 3D CAD packages
  • Understanding of site GA layouts and multidisciplinary interfaces
  • Comfortable liaising with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Senior level candidates will have experience leading design packages and mentoring others.

The Opportunity

This is a growing, well-respected MEICA business with:

  • A strong order book secured across AMP 8 frameworks
  • Clear progression routes within the design function
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Exposure to multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
  • A collaborative, forward-thinking engineering culture

Package

  • £35k–£45k (Senior up to £55k)
  • Hybrid working (3 office / 2 home)
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • Health cash plan
  • Life assurance
  • Enhanced parental pay
  • Buy additional holiday scheme
  • Employee recognition & referral schemes

If you’re a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to step into a business with genuine growth plans and real AMP 8 momentum, let’s have a conversation.
