Design Engineer

Job DescriptionDesign Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Engineer required to join a specialist engineering manufacturer in the Midlands.

Design Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Engineer will be an experienced engineering professional with a background in automotive, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems. You’ll bring proven expertise in 3D CAD, applications/specification engineering, and supporting technical projects with both internal teams and external customers.

Working as part of a small, close-knit engineering department, you’ll play a key role in supporting product specification, technical problem-solving, and industry projects. The role involves liaising with customers on braking and suspension systems, contributing to telematics and monitoring developments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and trade body requirements.

  • Up to £50,000 (Depending on experience)

  • Annual bonus (equivalent to approx. 8% of salary)

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays

  • Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Roles:

    \n
  • Produce and review 3D CAD models of components and assemblies
  • \n

  • Support customers with braking and suspension system specifications
  • \n

  • Perform engineering calculations for trailer designs
  • \n

  • Contribute to telematics and monitoring projects (testing & validation)
  • \n

  • Liaise with trade bodies and government on compliance/regulation
  • \n

  • Provide input to R&D initiatives and process improvements
  • \n

  • Work closely with quality, technical services, and wider engineering teams
  • \n

Requirements:

    \n
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a design or applications engineering role (automotive, mechanical, or electro-mechanical sector )
  • \n

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering discipline
  • \n

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar)
  • \n

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems; exposure to electronics/telematics advantageous
  • \n

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer-facing skills
  • \n

  • Full UK driving licence
  • \n

  • Must be commutable to the Midlands
  • \n
