Design Engineer – Forging / Aerofoil Components

Location: South Birmingham, UK

Are you a forward-thinking Design Engineer with experience in metal forging or aerofoil components? This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading engineering organisation at the forefront of high-performance manufacturing.

We’re seeking a passionate and detail-driven professional to take ownership of tooling and component design, forging process development, and cross-functional collaboration to drive product excellence in a highly regulated, precision-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the design of forged components and tooling, particularly aerofoil blades.

* Develop and refine metal forging processes, focusing on material flow, die design, and grain structure optimisation.

* Use NX CAD software to design both components and tooling; apply FEA simulations to validate performance.

* Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.

* Partner with Manufacturing, Production, and Quality teams to improve tooling life and reduce defects.

* Drive continuous improvement in design efficiency, material usage, and forging accuracy.

* Produce detailed engineering drawings, technical documentation, and support implementation of design changes.

Qualifications & Experience

* Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar.

* Minimum 2 years’ experience in design engineering, ideally within metal forging or blade manufacturing.

* Skilled in CAD (NX or SolidWorks) and familiar with FEA tools.

* Strong knowledge of forging principles, material properties, and GD&T.

* A proactive problem-solver with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

* Desirable

* Experience in the manufacture of aerofoil components.

* Background in aerospace, defence, or high-spec industrial sectors
