Science Systems and Applications Inc. (SSAI) has an opening for a Deputy Program Manager (DPM) to direct efforts supporting NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Responsibilities include, but limited to:
- Assists the Program Manager (PM) in the direction, monitoring, and control in all aspects of contract performance to ensure that all projects and tasks are accomplished within the prescribed schedule and cost parameters.
- Interfaces with customers to capture project requirements, obtains feedback on performance and presents status reports.
- Assists the PM in the development of project plans specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, safety, risk identification, contingency approaches, quality surveillance, and allocation of contract resources.
- Manages subcontracts and consultants, provides access to corporate resources, and interfaces with corporate administrative and support staff.
- Helps set organizational goals, manages business practices within the PMO, and helps the PM manage the Project Management Office (PMO) personnel as well as Project and Group Leads.
- Be an active member of SSAI’s Senior Management Team and participate actively in corporate initiatives including business development (marketing and proposal efforts), strategic planning, employee mentoring, community support activities, and corporate social functions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) and a minimum of 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years’ experience managing an organization of thirty or more science, engineering, and IT professionals in a contracting environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of a broad spectrum of disciplines involved in science, engineering, and technology support. This experience must include contract administration, project planning, team management, personnel selection, supervision, scheduling, and progress monitoring and reporting.
- Excellent verbal and writing communication skills, including experience in leading presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience in project management practices in a federal government environment, portfolio management, strategic planning, risk assessment and mitigation, and performance-based contracting.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the NASA contracting environment strongly desired, including familiarity with invoice and task management systems.
- PMP Certification
- General understanding of NASA Atmospheric Science missions, research, and programs.
- Experience in business development proposal efforts for large science contracts.

The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
