Essential Functions
The Demand Forecasting Planner is responsible for generating accurate demand forecasts, developing inventory strategies, and maintaining product availability across multiple import product lines. This role is pivotal in optimizing inventory flow, improving forecast accuracy, and aligning supply with customer demand to maximize sales while minimizing excess and aged inventory. The ideal candidate is a strategic, data-driven thinker with strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced, dynamic supply chain environment.
Demand Forecasting & Analysis:
• Analyze historical sales trends, market dynamics, and current performance to create accurate demand forecasts for import product lines.
• Monitor and communicate changes in sales forecasts, budgets, and business strategies.
• Anticipate demand drivers such as seasonality, promotions, assortment shifts, and external market conditions.
• Measure forecast accuracy, identify root causes of variance, and implement corrective actions.
Import Inventory & Supply Planning:
• Prioritize inventory and shipment flow based on demand, business priorities, and operational capacity.
• Place and track import purchase orders to meet service level and inventory goals.
• Monitor inventory levels to increase turns, reduce excess stock, and maximize sales potential.
• Recommend and adjust order quantities and delivery timing.
• Forecast demand for long lead-time products to proactively manage supply risk.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Partner with Merchandising, Sales, and Warehouse Operations to align forecasts with procurement and fulfillment strategies.
• Collaborate with Merchants on product lifecycle planning and end-of-life strategies.
• Deliver data-driven insights and recommendations to leadership.
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Planning:
• Lead supply planning for new product introductions, transitions, and discontinuations.
• Identify process gaps and implement solutions that improve forecast precision and supply chain efficiency.
• Continuously optimize forecasting tools, methodologies, and reporting.
• Maintain visibility into excess, aging, and at-risk inventory and recommend mitigation strategies.
Schedule Expectations
• Full-time position — minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Hours may increase during events, holidays, and peak business needs.
• Minimal travel as required.
• Hybrid Schedule: Mon/Tues/Thurs in-office required.
Education & Experience RequirementsRequired Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• 5+ years in demand planning, forecasting, or supply chain management within retail or consumer goods.
• Ability to manage SKU-level forecasting including promotions and seasonality.
• Proven improvement in forecast accuracy and process enhancement.
• Experience in high-volume, fast-paced environments.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, advanced formulas).
• Cross-functional collaboration experience across Merchandising, Operations, Finance, and vendors.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
• High attention to detail and data integrity.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to influence stakeholders across departments.
• Proactive mindset with a passion for process optimization.
Experience:
• Experience with forecasting/planning software or ERP systems (STORIS, SAP, Oracle, Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
• Experience with import or long-lead-time product planning.
• Knowledge of inventory optimization, demand signals, and supply chain risk mitigation.
• Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
• Experience influencing cross-functional decisions using data insights.
Minimum Education Level/Certifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Operations, or related field required.
• Master's degree or specialized certification (APICS, IBF, CSCP, CPIM) .
