NATURE OF WORK: The mechanic in the Department of Public Works performs a variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel engine-powered equipment. Such work ranges from minor repairs to the overhaul of such equipment as trucks, tractors, graders, rollers, loaders, street sweepers, cranes, compressors, pumps, and other heavy construction equipment. The work involves welding and machine shop operations.
