Overview

Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Deck Coating Inspector to oversee surface preparation and protective coating activities across key project infrastructure.

The role will focus on ensuring coating systems are applied correctly to protect structural and piping systems from corrosion in demanding energy industry environments.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Deck Yard QC Superintendent, the Coating Inspector will monitor and inspect blasting, painting, and coating activities during fabrication and construction phases.

The position will ensure coating works are performed in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and approved inspection procedures.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect surface preparation activities including blasting, grinding, and cleaning of steel surfaces
  • Monitor coating application processes including primers and multi-coat protective systems
  • Verify environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and dew point prior to coating activities
  • Conduct inspections using equipment such as DFT gauges, surface profile comparators, holiday detectors, and adhesion testing tools
  • Ensure coating systems meet required Dry Film Thickness (DFT) and project quality requirements
  • Maintain inspection records, reports, and material traceability documentation
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and support non-conformance reporting where required
  • Confirm coating materials are approved, correctly stored, and within valid usage dates
  • Coordinate coating activities with construction, QA/QC, and HSE teams
  • Support third-party and client inspections at required hold or witness points
  • Ensure safe working practices during blasting and coating operations

 

Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of industrial coating systems including epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich primers, and fireproofing systems
  • Familiarity with coating and corrosion protection standards such as NACE, SSPC, ISO 12944, ASTM, and API guidelines
  • Experience using coating inspection and measurement tools
  • Strong documentation and reporting capabilities
  • Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and third-party inspectors
  • Strong focus on safety and environmental compliance

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent technical qualification from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in coating inspection within energy, oil & gas, or industrial projects
  • Experience supporting fabrication or construction environments
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

 

Additional Information

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
