Capitol Services is currently seeking a Data Scientist – AI Application (contract) to join our growing team! You must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. C2C will not be considered for this position. 100% remote work is not available for this position. You must work a hybrid schedule in our Austin, TX office.

About the role: You will be working in our Austin, TX location responsible for working with data to support AI application development to solve business challenges, including the development and implementation of predictive models that drive strategic business decisions. In addition, the role will include assistance with data visualization by designing, developing, and maintaining BI reports and dashboards, as well as creating and managing new frameworks for data collection and building tools to automate data collection processes, in collaboration with cross-functional teams. This role is a full-time, contract role that follows a hybrid schedule, Monday through Friday.
What you will do:
Data Science and AI:
- Develop and implement predictive models to forecast trends and outcomes, helping to drive strategic business decisions
- Create and manage new frameworks for data collection and build tools to automate data collection processes, ensuring efficient and accurate data gathering
- Implement and manage small AI business applications to solve challenges with measurable outcomes
- Fine-tune and implement large models (LLMs) such as LLaMA and Claude 4
- Design, test, and optimize prompts to guide large models for specific business tasks and outputs
- Clean, process, and interpret data to extract meaningful insights and improve AI models
- Work with end-users directly to understand their business problems, aid them in the implementation of AI solutions, and create and deliver best practice recommendations
- Work cross-functionally with team members to ensure successful AI project delivery
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Assist with design and development of Power BI dashboards and reports with effective data visualizations
- Analyze and interpret complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for business growth and improvement
- Write and optimize queries to retrieve and manipulate data from relational databases for reporting purposes
- Ensure BI reports and dashboards are optimized for performance, accuracy, and clarity, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency
- Document data models, data sources, and report processes for internal knowledge sharing and future reference as needed
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of data analytics to ensure data accuracy and reliability before release
- Provide guidance to end-users on how to access, interpret, and use BI reports, offering ongoing support for any data-related issues or queries
Who you are:
- Requirements: You are eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and reside in Austin, TX. CSC will not be considered.
- Experienced: You have 3+ years’ experience as a Data Scientist or similar role. You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field or equivalent experience. You have 2+ years’ experience in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) or similar industry. You have knowledge of Agentic AI concepts. You have knowledge of Prompt Engineering including fine-tuning and deploying LLMs (e.g., LLaMA, Claude, and GPT models).
- Technical skills: You have expertise in Power BI tools to transform raw data into meaningful insights. You have a solid understanding of Datalake, SQL Database, or similar large data tool (e.g., Databrick or Elastic Search) databases. You have 2+ years’ experience using Python. You are proficient in Microsoft Software (Excel and Pivot Tables) and other report delivery tools.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills: You have the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects / assignments in a fast-paced and high-stress environment. You have an excellent attention to detail and exhibit a reasonable sense of urgency.
- Excellent communication skills: You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in stakeholder presentations. You communicate in both a professional and friendly manner with coworkers, correspondents, and others.
- Adaptable: You are eager to use new tools and learn new processes and technologies. You can adapt to changing priorities while working in a fast-paced and high-stress environment. You have excellent data analytical and problem-solving skills to provide meaningful and impactful reports to inform decision-making. You are able to adapt to challenges and demonstrate resourcefulness.
- Coachable: You have the ability to retain and implement instruction and training. You are open to learning and navigating our current processes and systems. You are not afraid to ask questions.
