Join a high-growth global technology company shaping the future of data infrastructure. Our client is a global leader in the development and operation of high-performance data centres, with a strong and expanding presence across Asia and Europe. As part of their continued international growth, they are seeking an experienced Cost Manager to lead budgeting, cost control, and contract administration for large-scale data centre construction projects across Spain.

This is a high-impact role requiring strong analytical and commercial skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, global environment. The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining financial discipline, minimising budget risks, and ensuring the successful and profitable delivery of projects.

About the Role

The Cost Manager will oversee the full lifecycle of cost management across data centre construction projects — from estimation and budgeting through to cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting. You will collaborate closely with project, design, procurement, and finance teams to ensure all projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate cost estimates for data centre construction projects, factoring in materials, labour, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads.
  • Review quantity take-offs from project plans to validate material requirements and ensure completeness.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to review designs, specifications, and scopes of work, ensuring comprehensive cost coverage.
  • Establish and monitor project budgets, identifying and addressing variances and cost deviations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of cost standards, pricing indexes, and benchmarking models.
  • Implement robust cost control measures to track project expenditures and maintain budget discipline.
  • Conduct variance and trend analyses to identify cost inefficiencies and opportunities for optimisation.
  • Prepare and present cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections for project stakeholders.
  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with contractual and financial governance standards.
  • Coordinate contract administration activities, ensuring all contract terms, claims, and disputes are effectively managed.
  • Liaise with legal and procurement teams to resolve commercial or contractual issues.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Engineering, Technical Architecture, Building Engineering, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in cost management, cost engineering, or quantity surveying within the industrial, construction, or data centre sectors in Spain.
  • Proven track record in delivering cost control and financial management for major Spanish projects, with strong knowledge of local procedures.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed cost estimates, performing cost analysis, and reviewing take-offs.
  • Experience using cost estimating tools (e.g. CostX, RSMeans, Primavera, Excel).
  • Advanced financial analysis skills, with the ability to identify trends and deliver actionable insights.
  • Strong communication skills in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Membership in professional bodies COAAT or certifications (AACE, CCP, Project Management) advantageous.
