Alsip MiniMill (AMM) was formed in 2015 when Corrugated Supplies Company purchased the idle lightweight coated paper mill in Alsip, Illinois. MiniMill Technologies, Inc. took the lead on the engineering, procurement, and construction in order to convert and restart the facility to produce 100% recycled Corrugating Medium. In addition to its profound impact on the local economy, AMM consumes over 250,000 tons per year of old corrugated containers and clippings, helping to keep these resources out of our landfills.

Position Summary:
The Process Controls Engineer supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mill electrical and control systems. This role is responsible for troubleshooting automation issues, maintaining PLC/DCS systems, improving equipment reliability, leading electrical projects, and supporting daily mill operations across pulping, stock prep, utilities, and the paper machine.
The annualized good faith base salary range for this position is $145,000 - $175,000. The actual salary rate offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, applicable certifications, and the candidate’s overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the Company.

Key Responsibilities
Controls & Automation
- Troubleshoot and resolve PLC, HMI, DCS ( PCS 7 Siemens), and instrumentation issues to support production uptime.
- Maintain and update ladder logic, control strategies, and system programming.
- Improve automation reliability, alarm management, and process control performance.
- Support machine control tuning, drive systems, VFD adjustments, and safety interlocks.
- Manage operational technology (i.e., PLC’s).
Electrical Systems & Maintenance Support
- Provide technical assistance for electrical power distribution, MCCs, motors, and switchgear.
- Lead root cause analysis for electrical failures, nuisance trips, and downtime events.
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical electrical assets.
Project Engineering
- Lead or support capital projects involving controls upgrades, electrical installations, and new equipment integration.
- Prepare scopes, evaluate vendor proposals, and oversee commissioning/start-up activities.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety codes, NFPA 70E, and mill engineering standards.
Operations Collaboration
- Partner with production crews to resolve automation issues affecting quality, reliability, and throughput.
- Coordinate with IT, vendors, integrators, and OEMs for system networking and troubleshooting.
- Train operators and maintenance team on control system functions and best practices.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of industrial experience in controls, automation, or electrical systems.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs and DCS (Allen-Bradley and Siemens DCS ), HMIs, and industrial networks.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC motors, VFDs, power distribution, and instrumentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues.
- Experience in pulp & paper, converting, or continuous-process manufacturing.
- Familiarity with DCS platforms, PI systems, or advanced controls strategies.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E, arc flash coordination, and electrical reliability practices.
- Experience with capital project management and vendor coordination.
Working Conditions
- Industrial mill environment with exposure to noise, heat, humidity, and moving equipment.
- Occasional weekend or off-shift support for outages, maintenance, or controls issues.
