Career Strategy Consultants is seeking a Controls Engineering Manager for a growing organization in the Dallas, TX area. This role will lead a team of controls engineers responsible for delivering high-quality automation and control system solutions. This is a full-time, permanent position that offers a generous base salary, bonus incentive, and lucrative benefits package.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on technical oversight, team development, and execution of complex projects across industrial and manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing controls engineering team
  • Establish KPIs, performance goals, and development plans
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage team growth and staffing

Project Execution

  • Oversee multiple projects from concept through commissioning
  • Ensure delivery aligns with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Allocate resources effectively across projects
  • Resolve complex technical and system-level challenges

Technical Oversight

  • Review and approve control system designs, programming, and documentation
  • Oversee PLC/HMI architecture, sequences of operation, and control narratives
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and system integration guidance
  • Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and client requirements

Standards & Innovation

  • Develop and maintain programming standards, templates, and reusable code
  • Establish HMI standards (layout, alarms, trends, navigation)
  • Drive continuous improvement in automation performance and efficiency
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, and sales teams
  • Communicate project status and technical challenges to stakeholders
  • Ensure alignment across departments and project teams

Quality & Compliance

  • Oversee quality control processes and participate in design reviews
  • Conduct audits to ensure reliability and performance standards
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards

Training & Development

  • Provide training on programming platforms, tools, and best practices
  • Promote knowledge-sharing and technical development across the team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 6+ years of controls engineering experience
  • 2+ years in a leadership or management role
  • Experience with platforms such as Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, Ignition, EcoStruxure
  • Knowledge of programming (ladder logic, structured text, Python, etc.)
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP)
  • Strong understanding of automation systems and electrical controls
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
