Up to $150,000 per year depending on experience

Controls Engineer Position Summary

Responsible for managing and supporting all plant control and electrical systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

Essential Functions of the Controls Engineer

• Manage and oversee all plant control and electrical systems, including electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, and system troubleshooting.
• Design, build, maintain, and support electrical and electronic systems for automated conveyors, packaging equipment, robotic cells, industrial communication networks, HVAC, and lighting systems.
• Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC and HMI applications as needed.
• Adjust and fine-tune machine parameters, including VFDs and servo motors.
• Electrically troubleshoot, tune, and commission equipment for proper operation.
• Create, update, red-line, organize, and maintain wiring schematics and system drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Provide oversight and technical support for the site’s electrical department.
• Assist with the assembly, programming, installation, and startup of equipment as required.
• Provide technical support for plant processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Train internal personnel on controls, equipment operation, and best practices as needed.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, internal teams, and external contractors.
• Observe facility operations regularly to ensure system performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Maintain daily communication with supervisors regarding system status and priorities.

Qualifications of the Controls Engineer

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE or BSEET).
• 2–7 years of experience in a controls engineering or related industrial automation role.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming and FactoryTalk View.
• AutoCAD Electrical experience ; project and customization experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with additional platforms such as Siemens, B&R, Schneider, Omron, Beckhoff, or AutomationDirect is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of food processing environments and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and industrial ergonomics.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with attention to detail.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn.
• Creative problem-solver with a strong interest in industrial automation.
• Friendly, energetic, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to grow and develop with the company.
