Controls Engineer Coop Fall 2025

Job Description

This is great opportunity for current students to learn how to design controls solutions and the basics of PLC programming for material handling equipment. Learn equipment requirements, business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solutions. Participate in electrical designs, installation support, electrical installation debugging and support of electrical hardware engineering. Must be willing to travel 70+%. Must be local to Cincinnati Area.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities to Learn (while working with a mentor)

  • Exposure to PLC programming to support MHE (Material Handling Equipment) using Rockwell Studio 5000
  • Learn to interface with customers
  • Learn to interface with internal engineering/project management to determine system requirements
  • Learn to support electrical installation via interfacing to electrical installers
  • Debug electrical installation of controls and motor components
  • Understanding of electrical principles
  • Understanding of motor control
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
  • Understanding of control devices
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • VFD operational understanding
  • Ability to integrate components via serial interfaces and Ethernet interfaces
  • 70+% travel to job sites (local/drivable and by plane). Site location depends on equipment exposure, customers and work assignments


Education

Pursuing actively a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or related field


skills – ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical skills – ability to calculate figures and amounts such as for the purpose of creating needs assessments.

Reasoning ability – ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Other skills and abilities

·Proficient with PC desktop applications (MS Office)

  • Regularly/Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
