Job DescriptionJob Description
The Controls Engineer is responsible to lead the transition from defect detection to defect prevention mind set throughout the company. Responsible for administering the total quality assurance program; encompassing the planning, evaluation, inspection and reporting on all quality aspects of a product from its conception through manufacturing, fabrication, storage and delivery with intent to provide an optimum quality product at the lowest cost. Develop, implement and maintain a Quality Assurance program to promote the Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Follow-up on all quality audits and first piece inspections. Work with Assembly Dept. by inspecting parts/equipment and determining reason/s for not complying with spec requirements. Where applicable making certain all relevant BOM and drawings are corrected.
2. Support quality assurance efforts of Engineering Department by creating and updating parts diagrams and drawings.
3. Assist Engineering Department in updating and organizing directories.
4. Establish and institute guidelines and procedures for Incoming inspection of purchased and fabricated material and parts.
5. Review all new or revised company products to ensure quality standards are met.
6. Establish and monitor process of transferring new product development from Engineering to Production and Repair Departments.
7. Create and implement standards and procedures for evaluating routers in order to create plant efficiency by auditing cost of jobs in key departments, i.e. Machine Shop, Tin Shop and Welding.
8. Establish a closed loop corrective action system for the Plant, which lends itself to Continuous Improvement. This includes the effective resolution and timely closeout of Product Complaints, and Quality Concerns.
9. Promote total customer satisfaction throughout the Company. This is aimed at both internal and external customers and includes but is not limited to follow-up on process improvement recommendations.
10. Provide Engineering Manager with the necessary supporting documentation (measurements) of quality to make an accurate assessment of the company’s overall performance in quality assurance matters.
11. Track quality trends throughout industry for application to enhance the company’s quality, safety and regulatory compliance. This includes but is not limited to supporting company‘s Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Philosophy initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in business administration, Engineering or related field. Certification in at least one of the following areas: Quality Auditor, Quality Manager or Lean Manufacturing
Required Knowledge:
Experience Required: Minimum of 5 to 7 years related experience or an equivalent combination
of education and experience in a manufacturing environment.
ERP systems.
Manufacturing background
Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Ability to work independently as well as in a group environment
Attention to detail and accuracy with good organization skills
Job Expectations: Ability to operate normal and customary equipment/technology used in a business environment, with or without accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
