Position Summary

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join our Automation Equipment Development Team.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about automation and capable of designing and programming control systems from the ground up.

You will work closely with engineering, marketing, and production teams to create innovative solutions, optimize automated systems, and ensure reliable operation across our production facility and product catalog.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new machine control systems (robotic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vision systems) from concept through implementation.
  • Update, troubleshoot, and continuously improve existing control systems, including ladder logic, relay logic, motor controls, and operator interfaces.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation: schematics, panel layouts, program files, and component specifications.
  • Implement and support industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP) for system connectivity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customized automation solutions and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in system simulation, testing, and validation activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field (Associate degree with significant experience considered).
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial controls and automation, including PLC and HMI programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Unitronics).
  • Strong Applications Engineering background with experience in designing and implementing tailored automation solutions.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for control system design.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset.

Requirements

  • Ability to bend, lift, push, pull, and stand for prolonged periods (up to 75 lbs).
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the calendar year.
  • Must be able to commute to the Cincinnati headquarters regularly.
