North American Automation is looking for skilled controls engineers with a strong programming background to expand the electronic control systems team. Controls Engineers are responsible for developing, testing, and troubleshooting control and HMI software, predominantly for Red Lion devices.
You’ll be developing for and supporting products at every step of the process: scoping, prototyping, development, testing, and deployment. There’s plenty to do – your only limitations will be your enthusiasm and desire to learn.
Qualifications
Programming experience is critical to this role, C strongly unless the candidate can demonstrate sufficient proficiency in another and the capacity to transfer that experience to a C-like codebase
Highly skilled in communicating issues and working with a team to complete projects and implement corrective actions
Direct experience with design and implementation of fault-tolerant PLC-based systems that incorporate error handling and recovery
Proven ability to create novel and robust solutions to existing problems
Proven ability to work accurately while under time pressure
Working knowledge of industrial control networks, including but not limited to Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Serial communication
Working knowledge or willingness to learn HMI development with an emphasis on user experience
Familiarity with cloud-based telemetry systems and interfaces, including MQTT-based telemetry, satcom, and/or IOT cellular systems
Accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Responsibilities and duties
Work with a team to develop, implement, and test software for Red Lion control systems that control industrial equipment – predominantly electrohydraulic systems.
Support deployment of new control systems as the system subject matter expert – to include troubleshooting, training of field personnel, and on-site support.
Work with a team to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment failures, bugs, and customer complaints in real time.
Implement improvements to and solutions for existing systems that minimize code complexity and added risk
Travel up to 20% is possible to support product deployment
