Major Recruitment are proudly supporting a large global manufacturer in Cardiff who are investing heavily in their site and technology. As part of this growth, we're looking for experienced Controls Engineers to join the team, providing critical support across automation, PLCs, SCADA, and site electrical control systems.
\n
This is a hands-on, shift-based role ideal for someone passionate about solving problems, maintaining system up time, and optimising modern manufacturing equipment.
\nThe Role:\n
- \n
- \nProvide technical support for all site automation and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and historian software.\n
- \nDiagnose and resolve breakdowns related to PLC and process control systems, reducing third-party reliance.\n
- \nMaintain and improve key industrial components: sensors, valves, industrial PCs, drives, instrumentation, etc.\n
- \nWork across Ethernet, Modbus, Profibus, ControlNet, and other network protocols.\n
- \nLead or support PPM and continuous improvement projects, ensuring full system availability and performance.\n
- \nAct as a site competent person (C2) for electrical control systems, supporting safety compliance and system integrity.\n
- \nContribute to the training and development of engineering and cross-functional teams.\n

\nAbout You:\n
- \n
- \nStrong working knowledge of PLCs (Siemens ), SCADA, HMI, and process instrumentation.\n
- \nConfident in fault-finding, code backup, system configuration, and upgrading controls infrastructure.\n
- \nExperience working with low voltage and extra-low voltage systems in a manufacturing environment.\n
- \nFamiliarity with tools such as SAP, MES, Wonderware, and industrial IT networks is a plus.\n
- A collaborative, problem-solving mindset and a passion for technical excellence.
