Job Summary:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automation and control systems used in manufacturing or industrial operations. This role ensures systems run efficiently, safely, and reliably by implementing PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and other industrial control technologies. The Controls Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to support production, improve processes, and troubleshoot control system issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and program PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems for automated machinery and processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with electrical and control systems to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to integrate control systems into equipment and operations.
- Maintain and update control documentation, including schematics, logic diagrams, and user manuals.
- Implement improvements to increase reliability, efficiency, and safety of automated systems.
- Support commissioning and start-up of new equipment and automation projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies.
- Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations teams.
- Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in industrial automation.
- Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns and conduct root cause analysis.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in controls engineering or industrial automation.
- Proficient in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of electrical schematics, sensors, actuators, and motor controls.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
