Controls & Automation Engineer

We are seeking a talented Controls & Automation Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of advanced control systems within our manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring seamless communication between production equipment and data systems, driving operational efficiency, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, program, and support control systems including PLCs, HMIs, and associated automation components
  • Lead integration efforts between production equipment and data platforms, ensuring accurate, real-time communication
  • Serve as a technical advisor for all programmable logic controller (PLC) applications, with a strong emphasis on Mitsubishi controls and Rockwell platforms (CompactLogix and ControlLogix)
  • Develop and maintain operator interface systems using Mitsubishi HMI software and Rockwell FactoryTalk View ME/SE
  • Update and maintain control system documentation, wiring diagrams, and engineering standards
  • Collaborate with production teams, supervisors, and engineering staff to provide hands-on technical support and improve process reliability
  • Identify and propose material and process cost-saving initiatives
  • Assist in the evaluation and recommendation of capital improvement projects in assigned areas

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proficient in Mitsubishi PLC and HMI programming is required; Rockwell experience highly
  • Strong background in control circuit design, machine integration, and communication protocols
  • Experience with SQL-based databases and their integration with manufacturing equipment
  • Skilled in configuring and programming Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Knowledgeable in AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical for electrical design and schematics
  • Solid understanding of Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable OSHA regulations
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and adapting to changing project demands
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments and convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related technical field (required or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial automation environment
