Position: Controls Design Engineer (Senior Level)
Location: St. Louis, MO
Overview:
We are working with a growing industrial equipment manufacturer that designs and builds highly engineered machinery. They are looking to add a Controls Design Engineer to support new machine development and take ownership of controls systems from concept through final build.
This is a hands-on engineering role with strong visibility, where you’ll work closely with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to bring complex equipment to life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop control systems for custom machinery (electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic)
- Program and troubleshoot machine controls, including PLCs and PC-based systems
- Work with motion control systems, including servo motors and VFDs
- Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
- Support machine build, testing, and debugging efforts
- Lead projects from initial design through final delivery, ensuring timelines and budgets are met
- Assist in developing internal standards and improving controls processes
What They’re Looking For:
- 7+ years of experience in controls engineering or machine design
- Experience with PLC/HMI programming (Beckhoff or similar platforms )
- Familiarity with motion control systems and industrial automation
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics
- Experience with programming such as C# or C++ is a plus
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work both independently and on a team
