Control Room Operator

The Control Room Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of our waste-to-energy facility. From the control room, this individual monitors plant systems, adjusts equipment settings, and responds to alarms and abnormal conditions in real-time.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and monitor boiler, turbine, and auxiliary equipment from the control room.

Maintain optimal combustion conditions by adjusting controls and monitoring system parameters.

Conduct routine equipment checks, identify issues, and escalate or resolve them according to procedures.

Log operational data accurately and maintain records in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Communicate with maintenance and operations teams to coordinate equipment startup, shutdown, or troubleshooting.

Follow all safety protocols and report any hazards, near misses, or environmental incidents.

Maintain positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers and management.

Support outage activities and emergency response procedures as needed.

Skills and Competencies

Strong analytical and decision-making skills under pressure

Proficient in using SCADA and DCS systems

Effective communication and teamwork abilities

High attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence

Will be required to attain the ASME QRO Provisional Certification within 1 year after hire

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Work is primarily in a control room environment, with occasional fieldwork and inspections

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required

Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet

Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.

Lift moderate to heavy material 50 lbs.

Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces.

Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose operating at 125 PSI line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire

Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lbs. portable units

Operate other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment

Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways
