Despatcher / Pipeline Operator
Location: Aldermaston
Contract: 12-Month Fixed Term (FTC)
Salary: Training salary £40,000 per annum, rising to £48,971 + benefits
Overview
Outsource UK is partnering with a leading multinational logistics company to recruit a Despatcher / Pipeline Operator based in Aldermaston. This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity with strong potential to become permanent. This is a critical operations role responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of fuel movements through a pipeline network. Working within a 24/7 control room environment, you will remotely monitor and control fuel flow using SCADA and associated systems, ensuring smooth delivery aligned to customer requirements. Working on shift with 1 other despatcher, you would be part of a 11 person Pipeline Control Centre team
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor the pipeline network via SCADA and other control systems.
- Act as a central point of contact for routine, abnormal, and emergency pipeline scenarios.
- Liaise with shippers, scheduling teams, pipeline technicians, and maintenance staff to coordinate operations safely and efficiently.
- Record, monitor, and report alarm conditions, near misses, and incidents to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
Shift Pattern (24/7 Operations)
You will follow a structured 5-week rotating shift pattern: - Week 1: 3 days, 3 nights, 11 off - Week 2: 4 days, 6 off - Week 3: 4 nights, 4 off - Repeat
In addition to rest days built into the pattern, you'll have 12 days of annual leave to book as .
There is also an expectation that you would be available to cover additional shifts on overtime, if required from time to time.
About You
We're looking for a detail-oriented and calm individual with proven experience in a similar operational or industrial environment.
Essential:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Previous experience in a pipeline, despatcher, or control room role
- Exposure to industrial sectors such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Water, or Hazardous Materials
- Control systems experience (preferably SCADA)
- Strong IT literacy and analytical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication under pressure
- A proactive and safety-conscious mindset
Additional Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence - site is not accessible via public transport
