Job Description

Controls Technician / Controls Engineer

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum

Full-time | Permanent

Birmingham

A well-established and growing manufacturing and engineering group is seeking an experienced Controls Technician / Controls Engineer to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic, hands-on environment where you will contribute to the design, build and support of bespoke control systems.

The Role

You will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of control system projects — from initial client discussions through to design, testing and site support.

Key responsibilities include:

• Liaising with clients to define system specifications and project requirements
• Assisting with the preparation of quotations
• Designing electrical schematics in line with relevant electrical and safety standards
• Designing control panel and cabinet layouts
• Producing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Developing PLC and HMI software (SCADA experience advantageous but not essential)
• Configuring instrumentation, VFDs and associated control equipment
• Testing equipment for electrical safety and operational compliance prior to dispatch
• Preparing technical documentation and manuals
• Supporting control panel builds in the workshop when required
• Providing technical support to internal teams and associated companies
• Delivering remote/telephone technical support
• Attending site visits when required for commissioning and system support
• Diagnosing and fault-finding control system issues on machinery
• Supporting general workshop and light administrative duties within a small business environment
