Homeowners League is dedicated to helping people plan and achieve early homeownership through work, financial literacy, and practical construction projects. The organization partners with construction companies to train youths in construction and after training form subcontractor teams to take on actual construction projects.

Work Location

Southwest Houston, just south of Beltway 8 and US 59, at the workshop of a construction company providing the training.

\n
Role Description
\n
\n
Learn characteristics of cold-formed steel.
\n
\n
Learn basics of steel framing system, including wall system, floor system and roof system.
\n
\n
Learn skills of using light gauge steel framing related tools
\n
\n
Assemble the steel framing members into framing panels using rivets in a workshop environment.
\n
\n
Install framing panels on jobsites into a complete structural building system.
\n
\n
Assist with additional related construction activities as needed
\n
\n
Participate in discussions on construction techniques, safety, and project planning
\n
\n
\n
\n
Qualifications
\n
\n
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
\n
\n
Physically fit and able to work in varying weather conditions.
\n
\n
Strong interest in construction and willingness to learn new skills.
\n
\n
Reliable and punctual; maintain a drug- and alcohol-free work presence
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Pay
\n
$10–$15/hr paid by Workforce Solutions for eligible youths ages 16–24 who are not in school and not working. Free unpaid training is available for those who do not qualify for Workforce Solutions funding.
