Description
The Construction Technician is responsible for performing quality installation practices for video, voice, and internet services in both commercial and residential applications, including common areas, IDFs, and MDFs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with customer activation of fiber-optic telecommunications in subscriber homes (e.g., pulling low-voltage wire) for single-family homes, condos, and apartments.

  • Install and service video services, including analog, digital, and HD TV.

  • Install, service, and disconnect telephone and internet customers; punch down telephone lines.

  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety policies and safe driving practices.

  • Install CAT5/CAT6 drop wire and connectors.

  • Troubleshoot video, telephone, and internet issues from telecommunications demarcation to customer equipment.

  • Troubleshoot IP issues from demarcation to customer equipment.

  • Install and configure ancillary subscriber equipment.

  • Test and tone wires from equipment rooms to outlets.

  • Install and maintain RF in-building cellular systems, performing repairs, maintenance, and testing.

  • Identify and acquire replacement parts as needed; wire, connect, test, and maintain new services or systems.

  • Install conduit/pathways from source to site, including trenching, excavating, and hand digging.

  • Use RF test equipment (PIM unit, Line Sweep Tester, Light Meter) to verify functionality.

  • Utilize construction documents to plan and execute site builds.

  • Coordinate utility locates and implement traffic control plans.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical circuit, RF radio, and antenna issues.

  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste, ensure safety, and comply with specifications, safety codes, and local electrical codes.

  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associates degree in Internet Technologies ).

  • Minimum 3 years of experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting cable, phone, and internet services.

  • Proven experience with fiber optic cabling.

  • Proficiency with small hand tools and larger power tools.

  • Valid, clean drivers license in the state of employment.

  • Comfortable working on ladders and at heights.

  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation.
