Position Summary

The Construction Superintendent – PEMB is responsible for the on-site supervision, coordination, and execution of Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, company standards, and applicable regulations. The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader and liaison among subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Execution & Site Leadership

  • Direct and supervise all on-site construction activities for PEMB projects, including foundations, steel erection, building envelope, MEP coordination, and finish work.
  • Interpret and implement PEMB drawings, erection plans, specifications, and structural details.
  • Coordinate sequencing and scheduling of subcontractors and trades to meet project milestones.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to ensure quality, productivity, and compliance with contract documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, schedules, and project documentation.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety orientations, and incident investigations as required.
  • Ensure subcontractors adhere to safety and quality standards.

Quality Control

  • Verify materials, fabrication, and erection align with PEMB manufacturer requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Perform punch list development and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate inspections with building officials and third-party inspectors.

 

Schedule & Cost Control

  • Develop and manage short-term and long-term project schedules (look-ahead planning).
  • Monitor labor productivity and subcontractor performance.
  • Identify and mitigate schedule delays and cost risks.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and equipment usage.

Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide status updates to Project Management.
  • Resolve field issues and escalate critical concerns as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, with specific PEMB project experience.
  • Strong knowledge of steel erection, PEMB systems, foundations, and building envelope systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and structural plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools, field reporting software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
  • Superintendent experience on industrial, commercial, warehouse, manufacturing, or agricultural PEMB facilities.
  • Certification such as OSHA 30, NCCER, or CCM (Certified Construction Manager).
  • Experience managing self-perform crews and union/non-union subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with Lean Construction or Last Planner System.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in outdoor construction environments with exposure to weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and traverse uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50–75 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.
