About the Role:

The Construction Project Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and directing construction projects within the public administration sector. This position is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The manager will coordinate with various stakeholders, including government officials, contractors, and community members, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. Additionally, the role involves identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. Ultimately, the Construction Project Manager will contribute to the successful delivery of infrastructure projects that enhance community development and public service delivery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for evaluating and presenting opportunities for capital improvement projects within the agency’s portfolio.
  • Develops scopes of work and project schedules ensuring successful projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepares contracts, change orders and other correspondence.
  • Schedules contractors in practical order, ensuring work is efficiently completed during jobsite inspections.
  • Authorizes contract payments in accordance with the scope of work.
  • Responsible for set up and maintenance of contract files from inception to completion.

Education and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in construction management is highly . Consideration will also be given to candidates with a High School Diploma or its equivalent and four years of experience in construction work with responsibility for supervision and construction cost estimating, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Practical knowledge of asbestos and lead based paint abatements is favorable as is multi-lingual proficiency. Familiarity with MS Office 365 is highly .

Certification, License, and Special Requirements:

  • Valid North Carolina (NC) driver’s license.

  • Excels in both written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships as you are in close contact with external and internal customers such as , colleagues, contractors and city inspectors.
  • Organizational skills are vital as you will simultaneously manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to independently provide oversight of a wide array of projects and make practical decisions while representing the best interests of our customers.

Physical Demands:

The work is sedentary work and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: manual dexterity, handling, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, talking, visual acuity in preparing/analyzing data/transcribe/using computer terminal/conducting extensive reading, visual acuity in operating motor vehicles, and walking.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Works overtime as required
