Job DescriptionJob Description
The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and project team in the planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of construction projects. This role ensures that project activities are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract documents, safety regulations, and applicable laws.
Must be be onsite daily
Key Responsibilities
- Request for Information (RFIs): Identifying "gray areas" in architectural plans and drafting formal questions for the architects or engineers to ensure structural integrity and design intent.
- Submittal Management: Reviewing and approving product data (e.g., specific lumber grades, custom tile, or HVAC units) to ensure they meet the project specifications before they are ordered.
- Schedule Coordination: Managing the "flow" of the job site in Watsonville/Santa Cruz. This includes tracking lead times for custom materials and ensuring subcontractors (plumbers, electricians) are scheduled in the correct sequence.
- Budget & Cost Tracking: Assisting the Project Manager in tracking "labor distribution" and material costs against the initial estimate to prevent budget overruns.
- Field Layout & Quality Control: Spending time on-site to verify that the framing, concrete, or finishes match the approved drawings. You are the "second pair of eyes" for the Superintendent.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Must have experience as a Construction Project Engineer.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field .
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Procore or similar project management software, AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for cost tracking).
- Local Knowledge: Familiarity with Santa Cruz County and Watsonville building codes and permitting processes is a major plus.
- Communication: Strong verbal skills are essential for managing local subcontractors and maintaining professional relationships with high-end residential clients.
