Job Description
Division: Construction Management
Reports To: Project Manager / Senior Project Manager
Classification: Full Time | Multiple Openings | Field & Office (Hybrid) (TAYLOR, TX)
Experience: 5 to 10 Years | Education: Bachelor's Degree or Relevance Experience
Position Summary
We are a growing Construction Management firm seeking motivated Project Engineers who combine a solid foundation in construction cost and scheduling principles with a sharp analytical mindset. Our Project Engineers are embedded in active projects from pre-construction through closeout and serve as a critical bridge between the field and the office.
If you thrive on making sense of complex data, driving schedule performance, and finding cost efficiencies through insight, not just instinct, we want to hear from you. Beyond traditional project engineer duties, our team members are expected to leverage data tools to track trends, flag variance, and produce actionable reporting that drives real project decisions.
Core Project Engineering Responsibilities
• Serve as the daily coordination hub between the project manager, superintendent, subcontractors, architects, and design engineers to ensure smooth project execution.
• Review, interpret, and distribute construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents; identify and resolve design conflicts or ambiguities in a timely manner.
• Manage the RFI (Request for Information) process, prepare, log, track, and distribute responses to maintain project momentum.
• Administer the submittal and shop drawing review process; track approvals and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Support subcontract administration including scope reviews, bid leveling participation, and change order management from initiation through final approval.
• Attend and document project meetings; prepare and distribute meeting minutes with clear action items and responsible parties.
• Maintain organized, current project documentation in the company's proprietary construction management platform (be ready to learn it).
• Support quality control and field inspections; identify non-conforming work and coordinate corrective actions.
• Assist in project closeout activities including punch list management, warranty documentation, O&M manual assembly, and owner turnover.
Cost Management Responsibilities
• Track and maintain the project budget and cost-to-complete (CTC) forecasts; assist the project manager in delivering projects at or below estimated cost.
• Prepare, review, and process subcontractor pay applications and owner billing; reconcile schedule of values against work-in-place quantities.
• Identify, document, price, and track potential change orders with both owner change orders and subcontractor change order requests through the full approval lifecycle.
• Monitor cost variance against the baseline budget; flag trend lines early and recommend corrective actions before variances become overruns.
• Assist with project cost coding, invoice approval workflows, and committed cost reporting.
• Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs against estimates; build and maintain cost-tracking logs that provide real-time project financial visibility.
• Support monthly cost report preparation with narrative commentary on budget status, risk exposure, and anticipated final cost.
Schedule Management Responsibilities
• Assist in developing and maintaining the project master schedule using CPM scheduling tools (Primavera P6); participate in schedule logic development and sequencing planning.
• Conduct regular schedule updates, monitor progress against baseline, identify critical-path activities, and produce schedule variance reports.
• Coordinate with the superintendent and subcontractors to develop and maintain three-week look-ahead schedules; identify resource conflicts and sequencing risks in advance.
• Track and report on key project milestones, deliverable deadlines, procurement lead times, and long-lead material submittals that impact schedule.
• Prepare schedule recovery plans when slippage occurs; quantify float erosion and communicate impacts clearly to the project team and owner.
Data Analytics & Reporting Responsibilities — Priority Focus
This is a distinguishing requirement for our team. Candidates should demonstrate real-world proficiency in the tools and techniques below.
• Build and maintain project-level dashboards and reports (using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools) that consolidate cost, schedule, procurement, and quality data into clear, decision-ready formats for project leadership and owners.
• Perform earned value analysis (EVA), calculate Schedule Performance Index (SPI), Cost Performance Index (CPI), and To-Complete Performance Index (TCPI) metrics to assess project health and forecast outcomes objectively.
• Analyze subcontractor production rates and field labor productivity data; identify performance trends and communicate findings to the project manager and superintendent.
• Aggregate and interpret RFI, submittal, and change order data to surface process bottlenecks and workflow inefficiencies.
• Develop and maintain project-specific KPI tracking; present data-driven status summaries in owner meetings, progress reports, and internal reviews.
• Support post-project lessons-learned analysis by compiling and benchmarking cost and schedule performance data against original estimates and historical projects.
• Leverage construction management software data exports and APIs to build custom tracking tools that enhance visibility into project performance.
• Assist in developing company-wide reporting templates, cost databases, and benchmarking tools as part of our continuous improvement initiatives.
