Construction Materials Testing Technician
Abilene: Texas (Field-Based Role with Travel Required)
Full-Time | Entry-Level to Experienced
Position Summary
We are currently seeking qualified and motivated Construction Materials Testing Technicians to join our team. This role involves performing field and laboratory testing of construction materialsincluding concrete, asphalt, soils, and aggregateson a variety of commercial, industrial, and civil infrastructure projects.
Technicians play a critical role in quality assurance and compliance, ensuring materials meet project specifications and industry standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine field and/or laboratory tests on construction materials
- Perform compaction testing, sampling, and observation of soils, aggregates, and asphalt using nuclear density gauges
- Perform on-site testing of concrete, grout, and masonry, including slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and preparation of compressive and flexural strength specimens
- Maintain accurate and detailed fieldreports and testing records
- Ensure the safe use, care, and maintenance of all assigned equipment and materials
- Collaborate with project teams and communicate findings effectively
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Basic Mathematical Proficiency
- Ability to perform accurate calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Proficient with basic computer applications (e.g., email, reporting tools)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to walk, stand, and work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
- Regular operation of a motor vehicle is required for travel to job sites
