Fence estimator analyzes plans, conducts site visits, and calculates costs for materials, labor, and equipment to produce accurate bids for fencing projects, collaborating with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure project feasibility and manage client expectations. Key responsibilities include performing quantity take-offs, sourcing materials, preparing detailed proposals, tracking bids, and overseeing aspects of project management.
Key Responsibilities
Project Analysis:
Review project blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to understand scope and requirements for fencing projects.
Site Visits:
Conduct on-site visits to assess the project scope, gather necessary data, and verify site conditions.
Cost Estimation:
Perform quantity take-offs (calculating material and labor quantities), source quotes for materials and equipment, and calculate overall labor costs to prepare comprehensive estimates.
Proposal & Bid Preparation:
Develop and submit detailed cost estimates and proposals to clients for residential and commercial fencing jobs.
Vendor & Client Communication:
Interact with clients, suppliers, architects, property managers, and internal teams (like sales and project management) to clarify requirements, negotiate contracts, and build relationships.
Project Oversight:
Provide support for project management from initiation to completion, including monitoring costs, tracking progress, and addressing questions from the customer.
Bid Management:
Track submitted bids, manage bid calendars, and follow up with customers on bids that have been sent.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Industry Knowledge:
A strong understanding of fencing materials, construction methods, and industry standards is crucial.
- Analytical Skills:
Ability to analyze project plans and data to create accurate cost estimates.
- Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and using estimating software.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and contractor interactions.
