Job Summary

The Estimator will play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable bid proposals for commercial concrete projects. This position requires strong expertise in commercial concrete estimating, including detailed quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and scope review for foundations, slabs, tilt-up panels, curbs/gutters, sidewalks, structural concrete, and related work. The ideal candidate will help Escalante Concrete win bids while ensuring estimates align with our commitment to quality and doing things right the first time.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural, structural, and civil drawings, specifications, and bid documents for commercial concrete projects.
• Perform precise quantity takeoffs for concrete volumes, rebar, formwork, labor, equipment, and other materials using software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools.
• Develop detailed cost estimates, including material pricing, labor rates, subcontractor quotes, overhead, and profit margins, tailored to the Tucson/Southern Arizona market.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs to assess project conditions and gather necessary data.
• Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and leadership to refine scopes, identify risks, and value-engineer where appropriate.
• Prepare professional bid proposals, scope letters, and clarifications for submission to general contractors, owners, and clients.
• Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes for completeness, compliance, and competitiveness.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, historical data, and bid results to improve future accuracy.
• Support ongoing projects with change order estimating and cost tracking as needed.
• Stay updated on industry trends, material pricing, labor rates, and Arizona building codes relevant to commercial concrete work.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience estimating commercial concrete construction projects (e.g., office buildings, retail centers, industrial facilities, tilt-up, multi-story structures, parking structures, or similar).
• Proven track record of preparing accurate bids that contribute to winning profitable work in the commercial sector.
• Strong proficiency in estimating software (Bluebeam Revu ; experience with PlanSwift, STACK, or ProEst a plus). Software will be determined at later date.
• Solid understanding of concrete-specific elements: formwork systems, reinforcement, concrete mixes, placement methods, finishing, curing, and related trades.
• Knowledge of local Tucson/Arizona construction practices, material suppliers, labor markets, and prevailing wage requirements (if applicable).
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and RFIs.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, GCs, subs, and internal teams.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits.

Qualifications

• Experience with both flatwork and vertical/structural commercial concrete.
• Familiarity with Arizona-specific regulations, and environmental considerations (e.g., heat impacts on concrete).
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field but not necessary.
• Certification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar not necessary.
