Construction Cost Estimator
Position overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Cost Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and proposals to prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of construction methods and materials, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret blueprints; architectural drawings, specifications, and project documentation to determine scope of work
- In this role, you will be responsible for estimate preparation, development, review, and issuance of independent cost estimates.
- You will also be tasked with preparing conceptual and detailed cost estimates; develop material lists and quantity takeoffs; track and maintain local material and construction cost databases.
- You will also be responsible for performing cost estimate reviews and reconciliations for subcontracted cost estimates, ensuring estimates are developed in preparation for budgetary submittals, and detailed estimates are completed for potential change orders.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather project information
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to obtain current pricing for materials and services
- Maintain detailed records of all estimates and supporting documentation
- Prepare comprehensive cost reports and summaries for management review
- Update and maintain cost databases and historical project information
- Create presentation materials for client meetings and project reviews
- Ensure all estimates comply with company standards and industry best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in construction cost estimating or related field
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
Requirements
- Extended periods of computer work and detailed analysis
- Travel to project sites as required
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes
- Knowledge of local labor rates, material costs, and market conditions
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
This position reports to the Enterprise Systems Manager.
