Position Summary
The Carpenter position with RBA Builders serves an essential function in construction operations through the assistance and completion of various field functions. Carpenters construct, install, and repair a variety of commercial, industrial, medical, etc. structures and fixtures. In general, the RBA Carpenter works with wood, steel, drywall, and a variety of other materials. Carpenters are also involved with demolition, and maintenance of these structures and fixtures. These jobs can vary from installing doors to ground up jobs.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair a variety of products, ranging from cabinets to installation to tile to drywall.
- Maintains tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Conduct building inspections and identify needed repairs.
- Complete safety checklists, and daily reports.
- Cut, shape, and alter materials as needed.
- Measure and mark materials with accuracy, for alteration
- Has the ability to frame, T-bar, hang drywall, install floor tiles, and install acoustical panels.
- Assists Superintendents, foreman, and other carpenters, when necessary.
- Prep construction sites by cleaning obstacles, preparing site for construction, set up barricades and many duties to assist in site operations.
- Load or unload construction materials as they arrive on site.
- Put together and take apart temporary structures, such as scaffolding, barricaded walls, etc.
- Clean up jobsites, maintaining an awareness of potential materials that can be used at other sites or can be recycled.
- Has the ability to read and interpret plans and has the ability to layout the project based on the specs.
- Shows initiative, and leadership skills by assisting Superintendents, Foreman, and other Carpenters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a carpenter in a construction setting.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to work in various conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands
The job of Carpenter requires a qualified individual to climb stairs, ladders, walkways, scaffolding, and other implements in order to access areas under construction to conduct inspections, job walks and monitor work progress in areas including but not limited to roof tops, confined spaces and excavation trenches.
- The job of Carpenter requires a qualified individual to twist approximately 45 in either direction in order to pick up and maneuver tools, in addition to accessing adjacent materials and can perform desk drawers as well as removing project binders and plans from shelving within the jobsite trailer or a vehicle.
- The job of Carpenter requires a qualified individual to be able to repeatedly lift objects up to 50 pounds and either place or remove them from the floor, shelving, or a vehicle varying in height from 0-6 feet in height, without assistance.
- The Carpenter position requires frequent operation of handheld power tools and other construction machinery and therefore requires finger and wrist dexterity for extended periods of time for any qualified applicant.
- The Carpenter position requires a qualified employee to maintain a reliable and predictable attendance record to avoid any service disruptions to project operations.
- The job of Carpenter requires a qualified individual to have effective oral and written communication in the English , whether in person, on the telephone, or through correspondence which is essential to completing sales calls, client meetings, vendor and subcontractor negotiation and project fulfillment with accuracy.
- The job of Carpenter requires a qualified individual to drive long distances to various jobsites and therefore must be able to sit for long periods of time based on differing traffic and travel distances.
- The job of Carpenter requires a qualified individual to perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by a supervisor.
