The Construction Accounting Manager oversees all accounting operations within a company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, job costing and compliance. This is a hands-on leadership role that offers the opportunity to manage a small accounting team while owning the full accounting cycle. Manage budgets, analyze financial data, supervise staff, and collaborate with other departments to improve financial health. Construction or industrial services experience is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
    • Ensure accuracy in job costing, project financials, POC accounting, track labor costs, and maintain WIP schedules.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop and manage budgets, analyze financial data, and provide financial projections.
  • Team Management:
    • Hire, train, and supervise accounting staff, providing guidance and support.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with accounting regulations and internal policies.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and implement changes to enhance efficiency.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work with other departments to align financial goals and strategies.
  • Audit Support:
    • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary information and documentation.
  • Decision-Making:
    • Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Essential Skills:
    • Construction experience, track labor costs, and maintain WIP schedules.
  • Leadership:
    • Ability to motivate, guide, and supervise accounting staff.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Strong ability to analyze financial data and identify trends.

  • Accounting Knowledge:
    • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or CPA-track is a plus
  • 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction or industrial services
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff
  • Strong understanding of labor cost accounting, WIP schedules, and job costing
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Experience with Viewpoint Spectrum or similar construction accounting software is a plus
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
