Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer – Process to support the commissioning and start-up of process systems across complex energy facilities.
The role will focus on ensuring process systems are safely commissioned, tested, and optimized prior to operational handover.
The Role
Reporting to the Hook-up & Commissioning SPT, the Commissioning Engineer – Process will coordinate commissioning and start-up activities for process systems within the project.
Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering, commissioning, and operations teams, the role ensures process systems operate in line with design intent, safety requirements, and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review commissioning procedures, test packs, and operational logic for process systems
- Verify readiness of utilities and support systems prior to process start-up
- Review engineering documentation including P&IDs, cause & effect diagrams, and operating philosophies
- Supervise flushing, purging, leak testing, and functional testing of process systems
- Support introduction of hydrocarbons or process fluids during initial plant start-up
- Monitor system performance during ramp-up and ensure stable operational conditions
- Coordinate control loop tuning and alarm configuration with instrumentation and automation teams
- Troubleshoot process deviations and recommend corrective actions during commissioning
- Support system handover by preparing commissioning documentation and ensuring punch list closure
- Assist with performance testing, reliability runs, and optimization of process parameters
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of oil & gas process systems such as separation, gas treatment, dehydration, and compression
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, control philosophies, and equipment datasheets
- Experience working with DCS/SCADA systems, control loops, and safety interlocks
- Familiarity with commissioning management systems such as ICAPS, WinPCS, or CMS
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills during system start-up activities
- Effective communication and coordination skills within multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in process commissioning within energy or industrial projects
- Experience supporting commissioning and start-up of large-scale process facilities
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
