Collaborative Welding Operator

Summary

The purpose of this position is to operate and support a collaborative robotic (cobot) welding system to

produce high-quality welds in accordance with company standards. This role is responsible for completing

production parts and job orders in a timely manner while maintaining a high level of attention to detail, weld quality, and a clean, organized work area.

Essential Functions

1. Operate collaborative welding (cobot) systems to complete assigned production tasks

2. Load, position, and secure parts accurately in fixtures prior to welding

3. Complete production parts and job orders in a timely manner to meet department goals

4. Inspect completed welds and parts to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications

5. Perform weld touch-ups or rework as needed to correct defects

6. Adjust and modify cobot programs within established parameters to improve weld quality and efficiency

7. Troubleshoot equipment, programming, or production issues and escalate concerns when necessary

8. Prioritize daily work tasks to meet production schedules and output expectations

9. Maintain proper weld settings, including wire speed, voltage, and gas flow

10. Ensure all parts meet blueprint, build sheet, and specification requirements

11. Communicate quality issues, delays, or equipment concerns to the supervisor

12. Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve issues and improve processes

13. Communicate with upstream operations to ensure workflow continuity

14. Perform routine cleaning, organization, and basic maintenance of equipment and work area

15. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to increase efficiency or quality

16. Assist with setup of new parts, fixtures, or welding sequences as needed

17. Cross-train within the Advanced Fabrication department as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous welding or manufacturing experience
  • Experience with robotic or automated welding systems is a plus

Specialized Knowledge

  • Demonstrate understanding of basic welding principles (MIG welding )
  • Read and interpret blueprints, build sheets, and work instructions
  • Understand weld symbols and measurement requirements
  • Apply basic knowledge of robotic or cobot programming concepts
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, and gauges

Physical Requirements

  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance
  • Perform repetitive motions throughout the shift
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed
  • Use hands and tools continuously throughout the workday

Occupational Conditions

  • Work performed in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to welding fumes, heat, and industrial equipment
  • Moderate to high noise levels
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, gloves, and safety glasses
